this is a great article i found, im gonna try this out soon. (RealOpty 09/2010)
An xbox is a gaming console made by microsoft that is basically a x86 computer with some custom tweaks. We should be able to use the x86 build option and add the xbox-linux kernel patches to that to get openwrt on the xbox. I will focus first on getting it running with the xbox-linux bios 'cromwell' and then perhaps get it going from a live booting cd for the xbox.
OK now we start.
The linux 2.4 kernel source patches seem to be more complete and stable. They also include a working fatx filesystem driver. The problem seems to be that the kernel for the x86 target is 2.6. I have made a openwrt buildroot target with the xbox as a target with different profiles for the different types of xbox discs/system to be made by it.
Coming soon
Get build source.
svn checkout https://svn.openwrt.org/openwrt/trunk/ ~/xbox-openwrt-2.4/
change directory to ~/xbox-openwrt-2.4/target/linux, download this package, extract it and delete the original archive.
cd ~/xbox-openwrt-2.4/target/linux wget http://snipes420.googlepages.com/openwrt-target-x86-2.4.tgz tar -zxf openwrt-target-x86-2.4.tgz rm openwrt-target-x86-2.4.tgz
The linux 2.6 kernel source patches are rather old and do not include a working fatx filesystem driver.
Get build source.
svn checkout https://svn.openwrt.org/openwrt/trunk/ ~/xbox-openwrt-2.6/
go to ~/xbox-openwrt-2.6/target/linux/x86 and download this config to this folder
cd ~/xbox-openwrt-2.6/target/linux/x86 wget http://snipes420.googlepages.com/config-2.6.22
go to ~/xbox-openwrt-2.6/target/linux/x86/patches and download this patch to this folder
cd ~/xbox-openwrt-2.6/target/linux/x86/patches wget http://snipes420.googlepages.com/linux-2.6.22.7-xbox.patch
edit the target/linux/x86/Makefile and change the kernel version to 2.6.22.7
nano ~/xbox-openwrt-2.6/target/linux/x86/Makefile
install the raincoat package
cd ~/xbox-openwrt-2.6/ wget http://snipes420.googlepages.com/raincoat-openwrt-package.tgz tar -zxvf raincoat-openwrt-package.tgz rm raincoat-openwrt-package.tgz
make a folder for the extra files we need for packaging.
mkdir ~/xbox-openwrt-2.6/files mkdir ~/xbox-openwrt-2.6/files/boot mkdir ~/xbox-openwrt-2.6/files/dev
when booting the xbox with this system it will hang at boot saying it cannot open the initial console. thats because /dev/console is missing.
mknod ~/xbox-openwrt-2.6/files/dev/console c 5 1
Make the whole thing
